What we do, in short:

Project team

Educational projects, research expeditions, social media, publications and presentations are things that the creative thinkers and go-getters of the project team focus on.

NICHE provides all kinds of online platforms, of which the Facebook group 'Nature in Hardenberg' (more than 2600 members) is the largest. We work closely with De Koppel Nature Activities Center (beautifully located on the Hardenbergse Vecht) where we have a physical home.

The autonomous volunteer platform 'Nachtvlinderen Oost-Nederland' is another good example of how we work.

Field team

The field team carries out ecological research for various clients throughout the Netherlands.

Due to nature legislation, a building must first be thoroughly checked for the presence of protected species before permission is obtained from the authorities for renovation, demolition or renovation.

Armed with thermal imaging cameras, batloggers and ready knowledge, our bat researchers set out at night to map out the relevant species.

In addition to the research we carry out on commission, we also use our material to increase knowledge about bats worldwide.

International

Because nature does not adhere to man-made boundaries, NICHE is internationally oriented. Of the estimated 8-9 million species on our planet, only 2 million have been scientifically described. In short: there is still a lot to discover!

The data collected during our research expeditions is recorded on Observation International's observing systems. This makes the data freely accessible to anyone interested.

Research reports can be found in the 'portfolio' section of our website and for a lively image experience with first-hand stories, the passionate expedition photographer can be booked. With this you also support our work.
